The chemical war
Apocalypse : la Première Guerre mondialeChemical weapons during the First World War
This war of position demands efforts from the men who stand under the gas shells. The chemical war has begun : chlorin and gas mustard... kill thousands of people. The International Comitee of the Red Cross protests. Since 1899, the poisoned weapons are forbidden. However, all the armies use these gas weapons. The protections against these weapons almost don't exist. For instance, the french army requires cotton for the nose and a strip of tissue, on wich soldier must urinate, supposed to reduce chlorine. The English wear a protective hood which interferes breathing. And their enemies are ahead in this domain. From autumn 1915, Germans use the Gummimask, a rubber mask with an active carbon filter, soon copied by all armies.
