The legend of King Arthur

On the day Prince Arthur was born, his mother Ygraine and his father, the good King Uther Pendragon gave their baby to Merlin the magician. The king said « My son and I have many dangerous enemies. Take him and give him to a good knight who will love him and protect him. When he is older, Merlin, please help him become a king ». And so Arthur was adopted and lived in the home of Sir Hector with his son Kay but he didn’t know he was a prince.

Comic book conventions

Speech bubble : when characters speak.

Thought bubble : when you see what the characters think.

Sound effect bubble : when there is a special noise.

Caption : a title or brief explanation accompanying an illustration, cartoon, or poster.

Comment exprimer l'obligation et le conseil en anglais ?

Must / can / should sont des auxiliaires de modalité. Ils sont invariables et sont suivis d’une base verbale.

► Must sert à exprimer une obligation et mustn’t une interdiction.

You must protect women and children! → Le roi impose aux chevaliers de protéger femmes et enfants.

You mustn’t disobey your king! → Il leur interdit de lui désobéir.

► On utilise should/shouldn’t pour donner des conseils.

Arthur, you should be careful, you have a lot of enemies.

You shouldn’t go out at night, it’s too dangerous!

→ Merlin donne des conseils.

► On utilise can/can’t pour parler de ce que l’on peut/sait faire.

The knight can’t take the sword out, it’s too difficult. → Le chevalier n’y arrive pas, il en est incapable.

Arthur can take the sword out, it’s easy! → Pour Arthur, c’est facile, il y arrive, il en est capable !
